CONSIDERING JOINING US?
F.A.Q.
Q. How much does it cost to learn to dive?
A. The easy answer is about £100. That total amount is for:-
British Sub Aqua Club national membership for 1 year which gives third party insurance cover, the back up of the best and largest diving club in the world and a monthly magazine posted to your home.It is cheaper if 2 students live at the same address as only one magazine a month would be sent for both. Also, renewal fees are cheaper for the second year.Membership of our club, Aramis, which is Branch number 2006 of BSAC. Benefits include free air, use of diving equipment including the boat ( EDDY ) , training resources and your voice, which as a student is valuable to us, at monthly meetings.
A. Yes. Membership of the club you
belong to requires us to hire a pool at about £450 per Quarter. We
therefore levy a £1.50 per week "Pool Fee" whether you are
there or not to cover this charge, as long as you are a member of the club.
All equipment, including mask, fins and snorkel are provided free of charge.
If you wish to purchase your own for holidays etc. we will be happy to
give advice. You could also hire the club equipment.
A. Between 10 and 15 weeks normally.
The "Ocean Diver" qualification is made
up out of 5 pool sessions of 1 hour duration, 7 theory lessons of 1 hour
duration and 5 open water dives. However, by taking your log book on holiday
your dive leader will be able to see your level of competency, and if you
use a BSAC facility abroad they will be able to sign off your log book
for dives achieved.
A. A lot of people do so. You need
to ask yourself whether or not you wish to use your holiday time with so
much instruction instead of enjoying the diving. Typically you would pay
about £130 to £160 to learn to dive on holiday and tuition
is usually given to a number of students at one time. This means that everyone
must learn to the slowest ability. We teach on a one to one basis at the
student's own pace, which is why the answer to the earliest question is
10 to 15 weeks. Your membership to the club lasts 1 year and you may wish
to take advantage of offers and equipment through the club. We are quite
nice people to know as well!
A. It would be hoped that you did, although not imperative. Your instructors are not paid for giving up their time. They do it because they enjoy passing on their skills and are willing to commit themselves to giving the lesson. If students can not attend, the instructors then has to rearrange a time to re-do that lesson. Genuine reasons for non attendance are accepted happily and your friendly instructor will be complaint. However, advising them you will not be there is a matter of courtesy. Unlike a diving school on holiday, you do not have to pay anything extra.
A. Yes. We have nationally qualified
instructors for recreational diving. Commercial diving is a different matter,
though. We could not do that as BSAC is a recreational diving organization.
We do encourage further qualifications and see every student as a potential
instructor in 1 or 2 years time. All excursions, club holidays and week-end
dives need to be organized by someone and help and involvement in the club
is always welcomed. Your input at monthly meetings, no matter how much
or how little experience you may have, is both valuable to the club, and
needed
A. In recent years we have been
to the Red Sea, Estartit, Indonesia, Cornwall, Ireland and Scotland, each
for a week's duration. Week-ends have been enjoyed at St. Abbs, the Farne
Islands, Angelsey and inland training lakes. Evening and odd days are enjoyed
off Hornsea or Bridlington on our own rigid inflatable boat ( R.I.B.) "Eddy".
